Tonight
members
practiced operating and running the pump on our all-terrain vehicle 145
SOV. This offers us the capabilities to fight brush fires as well as
access and extricate patients from off-road and wilderness settings.
The Buena Vista VFC is proud to announce that we have been recognized as a participating fire department from the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner. This recognizes all of the training our members have done to become certified at the Firefighter 1 level or higher.
Recently the Buena Vista VFC received our order of 2 new FLIR K65 thermal imagining cameras and truck chargers. These cameras were purchased using grant money from the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
Tonight members practiced operating and running the pump on our all-terrain vehicle 145 SOV. This offers us the capabilities to fight brush fires as well as access and extricate patients from off-road and wilderness settings.
Our new turnout gear washer/extractor and gear dryer were both delivered and installed in Station 145! The washer extractor can be used to remove harmful carcinogens after fighting fires, as well as removing infectious substances from gear/uniforms.
For company training this evening we welcomed members from STAT Medevac for a class on landing zone safety. We covered how to safely establish a landing zone, making contact with the helicopter, and how to safely operate around a helicopter on the ground.
For company training this evening we welcomed members from the Allegheny County HAZMAT Red team, Station 440, which can be requested to assist us with hazardous materials calls in our jurisdiction. Station 145 recently took delivery of a Genesis Eforce 17C combination rescue tool, which can be used to assist to perform simple vehicle rescues. Thank you to Anthony from Genesis for all of his help along the way!
Members from Station 145 took the Engine to the Elizabeth boat launch, where we practiced pump operations with other area fire departments. We got to familiarize ourselves with aerial master streams, drafting, and hoseline advancement.
